POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

Assault with a Deadly Weapon

On July 6, a man walked up to another man near the intersection of Quince Street and Valley Parkway. The first man accused the second man of shooting him a few months ago. The second man had no idea what he was talking about and began to walk away; as he did the first man then stabbed him in the shoulder. The victim went to Palomar Medical Center to be treated for his minor stab wound and was released. The man who was arrested continued to be uncooperative with officers.

Attempted Robbery

On July 9, a woman selling designer items on OfferUp met with two young individuals that tried to use fake money as payment. The woman did not accept the cash, and the kids pointed a very realistic looking pellet gun at the woman. Thankfully a citizen stepped in, and the kids ran away. They were later spotted in a restaurant by another citizen and were located by officers. This is a great example of how officers and the community working together can help make Escondido a safer place. Without the help of announcements from the helicopter and the heads-up citizen who was willing to call, these kids may not have been found.

Did You Know?

Please be diligent when buying and selling items on different websites and apps. Unfortunately, there are people that will try to take advantage of people. Always meet in public places, preferably with another person, and never give your money or what you are selling to the person before you see their money or what you are going to buy. If someone does try to steal from you, try and get a picture of them or their vehicle to help police locate them later.

PAL Trips to Padres Game

On June 22, the Police Athletic League (PAL) took 21 children from Escondido Education Compact to a Padres baseball game. Again, on July 5, PAL took 40 children from the Escondido Boys and Girls Club to a baseball game. At one of the games, a girl from the group caught a foul ball. Her hand was red and swollen from the catch but she was happy to show off the ball and her swollen hand. A fun time was had by all the children who attended. For many of them, it was their first trip to San Diego and their first-time seeing a pro baseball game.

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

On July 8, our Police and Fire Communication Center received a report of a traffic accident with a person trapped in the vehicle in the area of Valley Center Road and Lake Wohlford Road. Firefighters arrived to find one person requiring extrication from a four-door sedan. Firefighters used their battery powered hydraulic "Jaws of Life" tool to remove the front passenger door from the vehicle. An adult female was then safely removed and transported to Palomar Hospital with serious injuries. Two other adults, with little to no injuries, were evaluated and released at the scene.
