#GoSlowinEsco

Police, Traffic Engineering, and Communications have partnered on a public safety campaign around #GoSlowinEsco. A new video highlighting pedestrian safety in mid-block crossings, such as the ones along Broadway near the Park Avenue Community Center and the San Diego Children's Discovery Museum, will be shared regularly on our social channels. This campaign is a reminder to drivers to always use caution near crosswalks and follow all laws and posted signage.

Economic Development Projects

Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS): Every five years, the City of Escondido Economic Development team updates the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS is a document that uses data and community feedback to create policy and activity priorities for a five-year timeframe.

Why It Matters: The CEDS is a way to set a plan to attract and retain high-wage and critical businesses. Businesses play an important role in our community, providing jobs, goods and services to our residents. Many businesses also provide sales tax revenue, and serve as a catalyst to attract investment into the City to fund infrastructure improvements.

This document serves as a way to unite the City with private sector, nonprofit and other government entities on the economic development priorities of the City that will create a healthy economy. One in which people can find the jobs they want to grow their careers, and that provides the financial backbone of the community.

Your participation is important: In this process, in addition to analyzing the data and learning from economic trends and historical policies, the City wants to hear feedback from business leaders, employees and residents, on what policies and activities would help attract and keep desirable business in Escondido.

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

On April 2, Firefighters and Paramedics at Fire Station 7 received a welcome visit from Brandy, a certified therapy dog, and her handler Steve. Brandy and Steve are members of Therapy Dogs International and Palomar Paws of Palomar Medical Center. Together they spend many volunteer hours around the County at hospitals, senior living facilities, and fire departments to help bring joy to those who need a little happiness in their life due to stressful and difficult situations. Brandy and Steve are now an approved resource for Escondido First Responders, and this visit was a great experience for all.

Also on April 2, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a vehicle fire at 210 E Via Rancho Pkwy. On arrival, crews from Fire Station 4 discovered an Amazon delivery truck on fire in the parking lot. Firefighters quickly suppressed the fire and no additional vehicles or exposures were threatened.

On April 3, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a residential structure fire located at 1380 Oak Hill Drive. Units responding noticed smoke showing in the distance and requested a working fire upgrade for additional resources. The first arriving engine reported a working structure fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from a single family, mobile home. Aggressive action by the firefighters contained the fire to the fully involved unit, preventing additional fire spread to the surrounding exposed mobile homes. Heavy fire activity and significant fuel loading required extensive overhaul to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. The mobile home suffered near catastrophic damage in the front of the structure due to fire activity, although the rear of the structure was partially intact.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The Red Cross responded to assist the residents, and their dog, with short term housing, and a $250 "SAVE" gift card was provided to the family on behalf of the California Fire Foundation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On April 4, Firefighters and Paramedics from Stations #1, 2, 3 and 7 responded to calls of a vehicle roll over at the intersection of S. Grape St. and 2nd Ave. Upon arrival crews discovered 3 vehicles involved, with one vehicle on its side. Crews used battery operated hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life) to remove 2 occupants that were trapped in one of the vehicles. All patients were treated and transported to local hospitals.

On April 6, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a traffic collision on W/B SR-78 east of the I-15. Crews arrived to find a 3-vehicle accident with one vehicle resting on top of another. Firefighters were able to stabilize the vehicle and then utilize the Jaws of Life to safely remove the driver from the vehicle. One person was transported to Palomar Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
