57th Annual Independence Day Celebration

The California Center for the Arts will be hosting their 57th Annual Independence Day Celebration on Monday, July 4 at 5 p.m. In addition to the fireworks show (which is paid for by the City), there will also be a concert with country music star Lorrie Morgan followed by the Third Marine Aircraft Wing Band, activities for children, and food merchants. The event is free to attend thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Linden Root Dickinson Foundation, Dr. Bronner's, and Escondido Disposal, Inc. but the CCAE is also offering VIP tickets for those interested.

Juneteenth Conversation

Cassandra Schaeg, Founder of SIP Wine & Beer and Host of the upcoming KPBS series Fresh Glass, is bringing awareness to Juneteenth with a conversation at Escondido City Hall. Iris Rideau, the first Creole Winemaker in the United States, will share her story and release her memoir, From White to Black One Life between Two Worlds, on June 18, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Escondido City Hall.

 

The City of Escondido is proud to partner with SIP and Fresh Glass to bring this important conversation to our community. Both Ms. Rideau and Ms. Schaeg demonstrate leadership and perseverance in the sometimes-challenging entrepreneurship space. 2022 Escondido Water Poster Contest

Celebrate the tradition! For decades, 4thgraders in Escondido have participated in our annual poster contest with other North County water agencies. The contest theme is "Love Water, Save Water," allowing local students to illustrate the value of our water through creative, hand-drawn art. At the City's May 25Council meeting,the top 12 students were celebrated. They were presented with generous gifts donated by local businesses and the top 12 posters are displayed on theCity's website.The top 3 winners will be featured in next year's 2023 regional calendar.

The City of Escondido supports local public and private schools by providing the Water Science Education Program to elementary and afterschool programs. The program teaches water science to raise awareness of Earth's resources through interactive and collaborative activities that supplement each school's science curriculum and help meetNext Generation Science Standards. FY 2022-23 Budget Conversation with Escondido City Council

The Escondido City Council will resume the discussion of the FY 2022-23 General Fund Operating Budget on June 8, 2022. At the May 11 budget workshop, City Council directed staff to return on June 8 with a balanced budget that does not impact Police, Fire, or Public Works resources. Therefore, City staff will present the City Council with additional options to close the $8.5 million structural budget gap for the next fiscal year. Tough choices will have to be made and could impact the programs and services that you, your family, your organizations, and your friends rely on.
