The young men and women of our Cadet Post participated in the 2023 San Diego County Law Enforcement Explorer Academy at the University of California, San Diego last week. The Explorer Academy experience is designed to demonstrate the physical and academic demands of a law enforcement career. Much of the training is intense, and the young men and women from the Escondido Cadet Post represented our department and City with honor and distinction. The cadets have said that this experience is one of the most fulfilling and memorable weeks of their young lives. Thank you to the Escondido Cadet Advisors and officers who volunteered their time, and congratulations to all our Cadets that participated in and completed the academy!

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

On Tuesday June 27, the Escondido Police & Fire Communication Center received a call from California Highway Patrol reporting a vehicle fire in the area of northbound I-15 and the El Norte Pkwy offramp. Fire Crews arrived to discover a significant vehicle fire on the right shoulder of the offramp that had ignited the vegetation on the side of the roadway. Due to the swift action of the firefighters, the fire was quickly extinguished and did not progress further into the brush. No other structures were burned.

On Friday June 30, Firefighters from Station 1 joined members of the U.S. Marine Corps for vehicle extrication (release) training at Cardinal Auto Wrecking on Rock Springs Rd. Crews used hydraulic rescue tools to demonstrate their techniques and provided coaching to Marines receiving their first exposure to vehicle extrication as they prepare for deployment.

Also, on June 30, the Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a structure fire at the 400 block of Mission Ave. The first arriving unit discovered a fully engulfed travel trailer, located adjacent to a home. Firefighters quickly placed hose lines to protect the home while extinguishing the fire in the trailer. A search revealed occupants of the trailer and house had evacuated and no injuries were sustained. The trailer was a total loss, but the house had minor damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

On June 30, firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the 1400 block of E. Valley Parkway. The first arriving unit discovered a small fire located in a filing cabinet, inside the building. The fire was quickly extinguished and thankfully did not extend to the actual structure. Large amounts of smoke were present, so firefighters brought in fans to clear the building. The Fire Prevention Team is investing the cause of the fire.
