38th Annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby
December 2, 3 and 4, 2016
Rangers at Dixon Lake report that the 38th Annual Trout Derby was a great success! There was a great turnout for this three-day event, with lots of big fish being hauled in. The weather cooperated with blue skies and warm temperatures. In addition to all that, there's a new Dixon Lake record trout! Steve Capps of Escondido hauled in a 16.4 pound monster on 4 pound test, using green power bait. Congratulations to Steve, and to all the other winners (see below for the complete list).
To the anglers that didn't win, there's always next year!
Thanks to the Senior Anglers of Escondido for their continued support at the weigh-in station. This would not be a successful event without each and every one of you who volunteered your time and expert fishing advice.
Another thank you goes to the Hidden Valley Kiwanis Club of Escondido for providing the Kiddie Pond and trout on Saturday and Sunday. It's always a pleasure to watch the junior anglers catch their first fish! These dedicated volunteers always put on a great tournament in the spring, and now they've become regulars at our fall Derby as well. We were all glad you were here!
