Grand Opening of Fire Station 4

Contact: Fire Chief Mike Lowry, 760-839-5400

The Grand Opening of Escondido Fire Station No. 4, located at 3301 Bear Valley Parkway, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2012.  The event is free and open to the public.

A Dedication Ceremony for the station will include comments by Mayor Sam Abed and Fire Chief Mike Lowry, as well as a “push in” ceremony, an old fire service tradition of pushing the fire apparatus into the station. Officially known as a “housing ceremony,” this tradition dates back to the 19th century when apparatus was horse drawn.  Following the ceremony guided tours of the new station will be available until noon.

Live Fire Department Training

Contact: Ken Slaven, 760-520-5376

The Escondido Fire Department will conduct live fire training in vacant single family houses located on the corner of El Norte Parkway and Broadway on December 3 and 4 between 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Live fire training exercises are an invaluable tool for firefighters to practice skills and techniques in controlled fire conditions.  Smoke is a by-product of this training and will be present during the drill sessions in the area of the training.

Community Housing Works has made the vacant buildings available to the Fire Department for live fire training prior to being demolished.
