Dixon Lake Fishing Information

Dixon Lake Fishing

Summer is here, and we are stocking catfish!  The stocking schedule is below, and our stock on July 13 may bring in some good sized cats.  Our supplier, Pacific Aquafarms out of Niland, California, let us know that there may be some fish in the 8-10 pound range, and just in time for night fishing!  Please see the Latest Fish Report for up to date information.

  • Tuesday, July 3          1,000 pounds
  • Friday, July 13            1,000 pounds
  • Friday, July 20            1,000 pounds
  • Friday, August 3         1,000 pounds
  • Friday, August 24       1,000 pounds

Night fishing is offered Thursday and Friday nights from 5:00 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.  Night fishing boats are available for rent at 5:00, and must be returned to the boat dock no later than 10:45 p.m.  Shore fishing is limited to the area along the south shore, and fishing areas are clearly marked with signs and barricades.  Alcoholic beverages and glass containers are not allowed in any areas of Dixon Lake (beer and wine can be consumed only while camping in the campground). Smoking is not allowed in any areas of the park at any time.  Contact the Dixon Lake Ranger Station at (760) 839-4345 for up to date information.

Fishing Permit information:

  • Adults (16 and older)          $7.00 per day
  • Seniors (60 and older)        $5.00 per day
  • Youth (ages 8-15)               $5.00 per day
  • Children under 8                  Free (must fish with an adult angler, and all fish caught are charged to the adult's permit)

ATTENTION: In order to protect Lake Dixon from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors and other equipment that contacts the water.

Remember, consuming alcohol and smoking are prohibited at all times in day use areas, on the shore or on boats.  Violations of this rule will result in ejection from the park.

Check back frequently for information about our upcoming derbies. Plans are underway for the 40th Annual Dixon Lake Trout Derby!  Dates are yet to be set, but we're looking at right around the first weekend in December, when the water cools off enough.  Dates are still undecided for the Hidden Valley Kiwanis Foundation Charity Trout Derby, but keep watching this page for updates.

We've wrapped up a highly successful derby!  We had almost 1,200 participants over the three day tournament, with fish ranging from a half-pound to over 7 pounds!  We tagged 50 fish with prizes for the first 15, of which 13 were caught.  If you end up with a tagged fish after the derby, you get to keep the tag as your prize!  Congratulations to all the winners, and thanks to all the other "troutees" who made this a very special event.  Just wait until next year!
