The City of Escondido is seeking adult volunteers to serve as greeters at Queen Califia's Magical Circle sculpture garden in Kit Carson Park. The sculpture
garden is located on the western side of Kit Carson Park in the Iris Sankey Arboretum. No specific knowledge of art is required, just a desire to allow the public to experience artist Niki de Saint Phalle's only American sculpture garden. High School students seeking to volunteer are required to volunteer in pairs. High School students: this activity may qualify for Community Service hours! Here are some details:

  • Queen Califia's Magical Circle sculpture garden is open Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 am - noon, in addition to 2nd Saturdays of every month.
  • City staff opens and closes the sculpture garden; volunteer greeters would not be responsible for opening or closing the facility.
  • Greeters may serve for any blocks of time when the gates are open Tuesday or Thursday, from one (1) hour up to three (3) hours.
  • Greeters are in a visible area, stationed at a chair at the gate entrance, to the side on a bench, or on a bench inside the maze among the totems.
  • Greeters decide how involved they want to be with visitors. Greeters meet visitors upon entry, and walk through out the sculpture garden during their stay; socializing is optional.
  • Greeters may learn as much or as little as desired about the artist and the art pieces; information is displayed in a kiosk at the site to answer questions visitors may have.
  • There is no fee to visit, and visitors may come and stay as long as they want to experience the art. Most visitors enjoy taking photographs of the very colorful pieces.
  • This is a low-key, simple, and easy way to provide a valuable service to your community, and a great opportunity to meet people of all ages from near and far!
