The massive transporter hauling part of a retired steam generator from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station to Utah currently is parked in the center two-way turn lane in the 1300 block of West Mission Road.    The #1 lanes in both directions are closed.  Motorists should expect traffic delays in the area throughout the afternoon and evening. The operation will resume late tonight with the vehicle expected to encounter minimal difficulty in Escondido due to our wide and relatively standard grade streets.

The generator is being moved by a 192-wheel truck during late night/early morning hours and is not allowed to travel after 6:00 a.m.  Security for the equipment is being provided by the San Diego County Sherriff’s Office and armed security.
