Select Oak Trees to Be Treated at Daley Ranch Next Week

For Immediate Release
Contact: Dan Hippert, 760-839-4345

Aguilar Plant Care, as a contractor for the City of Escondido, will be treating select oak trees at Daley Ranch on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, August 7th, 8th and 9th from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  The treatment area will be the Jack Creek Meadow Loop trail, which runs north and south from the Daley Ranch House to the northern boundary of the Ranch.  During the treatment, both the east and west sides of the Jack Creek Meadow Loop trail will be closed to all travel.

Treatment of these trees is needed to help eliminate the Gold Spotted Oak Borer (GSOB), a pest that is damaging mature oaks throughout southern California, including Daley Ranch.  The GSOB tunnels underneath the bark of many species of oaks, causing severe damage to the nutrient delivery system of the tree.  Eventually, the tree weakens and dies.

Aguilar Plant Care will be applying two different products to help control this pest: Sevin SL and Pentra Bark.

If you have any questions about the trail closure or treatment, please contact the City’s Park Ranger station at (760) 839-4345.
