The Economic Development Division performs geo-area sales tax analysis to monitor the performance of commercial business districts. Tracking the performance of well-defined commercial areas provides insight into our local economy and allows us to evaluate business climate.

The chart below shows revenue figures for key commercial areas in Escondido since 2000. Cities receive 1% of the 7.75% tax placed on retail sales within their jurisdictional boundary as mandated by California State Law. The revenue is used to provide services to citizens and to protect the public's health, safety, and welfare through effective public policy, fiscal responsibility, and sound judgment.
