In response to the 2010 California Office of Traffic Safety ranking of cities in which Escondido fared well in some categories, but poorly in others, City Manager Clay Phillips released the following statement, “Improving traffic safety is a high priority for Escondido.  We’ve made progress over the past five years and the actual number of incidents has significantly declined in several categories since 2005.”  Mr. Phillips further noted, “Our emphasis on DUI enforcement has been particularly effective, resulting in our consistently receiving some of the best scores possible.  However, we still aren’t where we would like to be in the overall rankings and we will continue to do all we can to improve traffic safety in Escondido.”

The OTS Rankings were developed so that individual cities could compare their city’s traffic safety statistics to those of other cities with similar-sized populations. To view the OTS traffic safety rankings visit: http://www.ots.ca.gov/Media_and_Research/Rankings/default.asp
