Dixon Lake Ranger Station Updates
Next week, demolition begins on the Dixon Lake Ranger Station. The temporary Ranger headquarters recently suffered damage making it unsafe and the process of removal and clearing the site for a new building is necessary. Phase two will include a new concrete pad, deck and retaining wall in preparation for the new building that is scheduled to be ready in May of 2023. Minimal site impacts will be the relocation of ADA parking stalls and a temporary closure of the play structure while heavy equipment is present. Stay tuned for updates!
Floating Pumpkin Patch

Caltrans Free Dump Day
This Saturday, October 15, Caltrans District 11 is hosting "Free Dump Day" at their Escondido Maintenance Yard, located at 1780 West Mission Road, Escondido 92029.
The following items will NOT be accepted:
No Treated Wood Waste
No Construction Debris (dirt, concrete, asphalt or asbestos)
No Compressed Gas or Aerosol
No Hazardous Waste (paint, batteries, oils, flammables, etc.)
No E-waste (Televisions, computer/stereo equipment, microwaves, electronics, etc.)
No Refrigerators or Freezers

Escondido Explorer Fair
Don't miss the Escondido Explorer Environmental Fair on Saturday, October 22 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. The San Dieguito River Park and their partners will share important information about the San Dieguito watershed, local wildlife, conservation, safety, history, volunteer opportunities, and more at this family friendly event! This fair kicks off the Escondido Explorer Program which provides free field trips & activities for Escondido children & families to various locations throughout the San Dieguito Watershed. Escondido High Hosts Pumpkinfest -October 15
The Escondido High School Agriculture Department will host the 15th Annual Pumpkinfest Saturday, October 15 from 10 a.m. -4 p.m. at Escondido High, 1535 North Broadway, behind the baseball field. There is no charge for admission. Pumpkins grown by students will be available for purchase. Pumpkinfest also includes tractor rides, carnival games, a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, food, plants, music and entertainment, and a classic car show put on by the Escondido High Auto Shop Department. All proceeds from Pumpkinfest benefit students of the Escondido High Agriculture Department.
Escondido College & Career Fair
The Escondido Union High School District is hosting a College & Career Fair on Monday, October 17, 5-7 p.m. at San Pasqual High School. It's free and open to all high school students and the community. More than 50 colleges, apprenticeship program representatives, and military branches will be present and available to share information.

POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:
Vandalism
On October 3, officers met with a man in a parking lot. While speaking with him, other officers were investigating vandalisms that had occurred in the same area. The officers were able to coordinate their efforts, and arrested the man for breaking windows to two different stores in the area. He used a fire extinguisher that he had stolen from a third store to break those windows.
Halloween Pumpkin Decorating at the Mall
On Saturday, the Westfield Shopping Center hosted a pumpkin decorating contest in the main court. Adults and children from the community came and decorated craft pumpkins and some even got their faces painted. Escondido police officers were honored to be asked to judge the event. Officers got to hang out with the decorators and then give prizes out to participants.
And while we are on the topic of Halloween don't forget Trunk or Treat is Saturday, October 29 6-8 p.m. at the California Center for the Arts (Woodward Lot).
Tip a Cop -BJ's Brewhouse
On October 5, officers, volunteers, command staff, and partners from California Highway Patrol and San Diego Police Department teamed up for the Tip-A-Cop event. Police Department employees served delicious food and created a fun dining experience for everyone who showed up to show support. Proceeds from the event benefit the Special Olympics Southern California.

September Abandoned Vehicle Data
FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:
On October 6, the engine and ladder truck crews from Fire Station #1 assisted San Diego Fire and Rescue Department with locating, treating and transporting an injured hiker in the area near Lake Hodges. Firefighters found an adult male experiencing medical problems that required immediate transportation to a hospital. The San Diego Fire and Rescue Departments helicopter was utilized to transport the patient from a remote location directly to Palomar Hospital. The patient's dog, who was with him on in the hike, was also located and cared for by firefighters until family arrived to retrieve him.
Escondido Fire Captain Matt Collins, who is assigned a leader of the North County Rapid Extraction Module (REMS) team, is providing rescue and medic service for personnel still working at the Mosquito Fire in Placer and El Dorado Counties. The terrain is rugged, remote and inaccessible by vehicles or helicopters. In the event of an injury, the REMS team is able to bring advance life support care to the location as well as technical recue so the victim can be brought to a hospital.

- The counter staff conducted in-person meetings with 88 applicants, processed 106 applications, and issued 90 permits.
- The total permit valuation for the week was $954.251.
- Building inspectors completed 189 inspections.
Field Engineering Division:
1. Field Engineering processed 27 permits.
2. Field Engineering inspectors completed 73 inspections.
3. Field Engineering has 164 active permits.
