Kids to Work Day 2023
Last Thursday, the City participated in Take Your Kids to Work Day. The children of City staff were invited to visit multiple locations across the City to see all that goes in to keeping our community safe and running smoothly. The Escondido Federal Credit Union provided a lunch for all participants at Lake Dixon. Thank you to all the departments that participated and helped give the children a memorable day shadowing their parents at work!

Annual Earth Day Poster Contest
Since 1991, 4th graders in the Escondido Water District have participated in our annual poster contest. Each year, a new contest theme is chosen, giving local students the opportunity to illustrate the value of our water resources.
This year's theme was "Your Escondido" where students were encouraged to create posters depicting things that they love about their City. The ceremony was held at the Escondido Arts Partnership Gallery. Some of the winning posters are pictured below.

Economic Development Projects
Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS): Every five years, the City of Escondido Economic Development team updates the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS is a document that uses data and community feedback to create policy and activity priorities for a five-year timeframe.
Why It Matters: The CEDS is a way to set a plan to attract and retain high-wage and critical businesses. Businesses play an important role in our community, providing jobs, goods and services to our residents. Many businesses also provide sales tax revenue, and serve as a catalyst to attract investment into the City to fund infrastructure improvements.
This document serves as a way to unite the City with private sector, nonprofit and other government entities on the economic development priorities of the City that will create a healthy economy. One in which people can find the jobs they want to grow their careers, and that provides the financial backbone of the community.
Your participation is important. In this process, in addition to analyzing the data and learning from economic trends, and historical policies, the City wants to hear feedback from business leaders, employees and residents, in what policies and activities would help attract and keep desirable business in Escondido.

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:
On April 24, a passerby reported a small transient fire near 10th Ave. When Firefighters arrived on scene they discovered an encampment with debris strewn about the roadside and cluster packs of Li-Ion batteries that were burning. When these types of batteries are exposed to fire, they pose a danger and will explode into the air like a bottle rocket. The batteries were quickly extinguished by crews and no injuries were sustained.
On April 25, Fire crews received a wonderful note from students and staff after visiting Emmanuel Faith Preschool during Community Helper Week: We want to extend a HUGE Thank You to you and your awesome crew who came to our preschool last week! It was wonderful to see our kiddos so excited to see the fire truck and hear from the fire fighters.
--Liz Grenke, Assistant Director
Firefighters and Paramedics at Station #1 welcomed visitors during the City's "Kids to Work Day"! Guests experienced a wide array of firefighting tools, equipment, and apparatus that are used daily by our crews. Kids enjoyed trying on equipment and working a fire hose. Everyone went home with goodie bags and hats!
