Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Update

Every five years, the City of Escondido Economic Development team updates the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS is a document that uses data and community feedback to create policy and activity priorities for a five-year timeframe.

The CEDS is a way to set a plan to attract and retain high-wage and critical businesses. Businesses play an important role in our community, providing jobs, goods and services to our residents. Many businesses also provide sales tax revenue, and serve as a catalyst to attract investment into the City to fund infrastructure improvements.

This document serves as a way to unite the City with private sector, nonprofit and other government entities on the economic development priorities of the City that will create a healthy economy. One in which people can find the jobs they want to grow their careers, and that provides the financial backbone of the community.

In this process, in addition to analyzing the data and learning from economic trends, and historical policies, the City wants to hear feedback from business leaders, employees and residents, in what policies and activities would help attract and keep desirable business in Escondido.

What is Innovate78?

Innovate78 supports the business ecosystem of the 78 Corridor by further elevating North County San Diego's reputation and assisting businesses as they evolve. The partnership between Carlsbad, Escondido, Oceanside, San Marcos and Vista helps businesses prosper in place for the betterment of all who work and reside here. The multi-city partnership furthers innovation with a shared vision to boost economic prosperity.

Manufacturing in North County San Diego Industry Highlights:

Manufacturing in North County has an enormous economic impact, contributing $5.3B to the GRP in 2021.

Overall, the sector provides 34,448 jobs in North County, which represents a 2% growth over last year (2021). Impressive when the manufacturing job market declined regionally and nationally over the same period.

Since 2017, there has been a 13% increase in engineering and other tech-related degrees in North County fueling the region's talent pipeline.

Average wages are up and unique job postings are down, which signals that employees are staying (and excelling) in North County.

Cops and Coffee

Cops and the community both love coffee, so what better way to get everyone together?Officers, sergeants, volunteers, cadets, and command staff joined a hard-working Starbucks staff and spent a few hours serving citizens their Saturday morning coffee and striking up conversations.Whether they came in for a cup, were headed through the drive thru, or parked out front, someone was there to say hello. It was a beautiful day, and everyone had a great time.
