E-Waste Recycling and Shredding Event
The City of Escondido's Recycling Division is hosting a FREE e-waste recycling and document shredding event this Saturday, June 3.
Come anytime between 9 a.m. and noon to drop off your old electronics as well as 2 bankers boxes of documents to be shredded (no appliances).
Location: Parking Lot at Emmanuel Faith Community Church, 639 E. 17th Ave. (specific location is at the corner of 17th and Encino Drive).
Public Works Partnerships
The City of Escondido Public Works Department along with partners, Caltrans and Urban Corps, worked together last week to clean up debris along the I15 and the Escondido Promenade. These teams coordinate ongoing, weekly efforts to clean bordering areas.
Last week these agencies collectively removed over 50 yards of debris and abandoned items from culverts and roadways to improve appearance, ensure proper drainage and protect habitat. The City of Escondido prides itself in forging new partnerships, while maintaining existing relationships with partner agencies for a comprehensive approach towards keeping our City clean.

CONGRATULATIONS
This past week, the Escondido Police Department got two more officers out on the streets.Officers Tristen Smith and Jared Gonzales graduated the 133rd San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute at Miramar College.Officer Smith won the 'top shot'award of the academy, which is awarded to the officer that performs the best in firearms training. The academy is an intensive Monday-Friday, 8 hours a day, 24 weeks of lectures, physical conditioning, and technical skills training that are trained and then tested. Congratulations to our two new officers, and to their families who supported them through their journey so far. Welcome to the Escondido team. Both officers will begin field training next week.

FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:
On May 28, The Escondido Police and Fire Communications Center received reports of a structure fire on Wildflower Place. The first Engine Company to arrive reported the garage of a single-story residential home was fully engulfed in fire. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the garage fire and then found the fire had extended to a portion of the living space and attic. It took 19 Firefighters approximately 35 minutes to completely extinguish the fire. The home sustained significant damage including total collapse of the roof above the garage.
Three residents were displaced to the significant structural damage. A California Fire Foundation SAVE card was issued to the residents to assist with immediate needs and the American Red Cross responded to assist with temporary lodging. No civilians or Firefighters were injured during the incident. Additional assistance was provided by SDG&E. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The counter staff conducted in-person meetings with 67 applicants, processed 125 applications, and issued 110 permits.
The total permit valuation for the week was $368,836.00
Building inspectors completed 180 inspections.
