Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 10:30 – 11:45 a.m. in the Turrentine Room as a part of the Library’s annual Summer Reading Challenge for kids, teens, and adults, which runs from June 19 to July 31. Attend events, read for enjoyment, and earn opportunities to win prizes by logging your activity at library.escondido.org/summer. This month’s selection is La luz que no puedes ver/All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Copies of the book are available for check-out in English and Spanish, and in a variety of formats, including print and eBook, and can be reserved at library.escondido.org.
Anthony Doerr elegantly interweaves the parallel stories of two children doing their best to survive World War II; Werner, a German orphan, and Marie-Laure, a blind girl. Marie-Laure’s father designs a miniature world for his daughter, a replica of their actual neighborhood that enables Marie-Laure to navigate the world. In Germany, Werner’s brilliant mind catches the attention of the Nazis and they use him to track the resistance.
This Pulitzer Prize winning novel is a beautiful tale of survival and morality in war-torn Europe and was selected for the Summer Reading Challenge theme, Design Your World.
Rincón Literario will continue on Saturday, August 26, 2017, discussing El cuchillo de agua/The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi. Rincón Literario and the 2017 Summer Reading Challenge are made possible by the generous support from Friends of the Escondido Public Library. All Library programs are free and open to the public.
