FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

On January 17, Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis had the honor of attending a press conference at the Firehouse Sub restaurant in Mira Mesa celebrating the Firehouse Sub Foundation’s recent donation of two Thermal Imaging Cameras (TIC) valued at $16,147 to the Escondido Fire Department. The donation was awarded by the foundation in the fall of 2022 and the devices have been placed in service on our fire engines. Thermal imaging cameras are used during fires to quickly find victims in smoke filled rooms so they can be rescued. The cameras are also used on smoke and odor check calls so that firefighters can detect heat and fire that might be hidden in walls. The devices are even used at night on traffic accident scenes to locate victims that may have been thrown from vehicles. Escondido Fire is grateful to the Firehouse Subs Foundation for its generous donation.

On January 18, Mayor Dane White rode along with Battalion Chief Jeff Sargis for several hours. Chief Sargis talked about field operations and they ran on several emergency calls along with the station crews.

On January 21, Escondido Police and Fire Communication Center received reports of a traffic collision requiring extrication (release of occupants from vehicle) located at the intersection of westbound Lincoln Ave/SR-78 and N Broadway. Escondido Police (EPD) arrived on scene quickly to begin significant traffic control in this very busy intersection. Firefighters, using hydraulic rescue tools freed one patient who was treated and transported to the hospital by Paramedics along with two others that were also in the car.
