Thank You Public Works!
Shout out to our street maintenance crews, who work hard during rain events (and all year long) to keep our roads safe. Thank you for all that you do! Remember to slow down in the rain, turn on your headlights, and follow all posted signage.
If you are an Escondido resident and need sandbags for your property, you can visit Kit Carson Park and fill 10 bags for free. Residents will need to bring identification, as well as their own shovels and be prepared to fill the sandbag themselves. Learn more at: escondido.org/where-to-get-sand-bags
In addition, please remember to turn off your sprinklers during a rain event. To stay up to date for any emergency notices, sign up for ReadySanDiego at:

Looking Ahead to 2023:
Welcome to the New Year! 2023 will be one for the books and the City's Economic Development Team is excited for what's to come. Starting with some new restaurants, we are welcoming Dave's Hot Chicken, California Fish Grill, and Fresh N Go. Support your new local businesses and stop by for some amazing food.
This year, the City is in the process of renewing its Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS). The CEDS is a strategy-driven plan for local economic development. A CEDS is the result of a locally-owned planning process designed to build capacity and guide the economic prosperity and resiliency of an area or region. City staff will share CEDS meetings and surveys in the coming weeks to gather feedback and participation for the creation of this document.
Lastly, please keep any eye out for grant and funding opportunities as they come up. The California Competes Tax Credit is open for another round of applications (more info below) and the City is still running its Facade Improvement Grant program.

POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:
Hit and Run Traffic Collision
A semi-truck struck a City fire hydrant last week, quickly causing the street to flood. A good citizen saw the accident occur and followed the truck. Officers were able to arrest the driver for hit and run. Escondido Fire Department was able to shut off the water and public works repaired the hydrant. Another example of the great teamwork of City employees.
Congratulations
The Escondido Police Department is pleased to welcome Isamara Aispura to the team. Isamara was sworn in as a Public Safety Dispatcher this week and is currently in training.
