The City of Escondido recently contracted with Doug Grove of RHA Landscape Architects- Planners, Inc. to work with the community and City staff to develop the master plan for Grape Day Park, which will also include the design and construction of the playground equipment at the Park.  The master plan will solidify a vision for the Park’s development to include the historical and recreational use of the park and guide the City’s plans for future civic investment. Grove will guide the process and project concepts for this exciting project in three community workshops. Participants who attend the workshops will have opportunities to ask questions about the project and share their ideas regarding the activities in, and uses of the park’s future.

The schedule of the meetings, which will all be held in the City Hall Mitchell Room at 201 North Broadway is:

  • Saturday, August 2, 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Project overview and Park site visit (3:45 to 5:00 p.m.), which is located at 321 North Broadway. Participants are encouraged to bring their walking shoes and lots of ideas.
  • Thursday, September 11, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Draft concepts for the playground and Park master plan.
  • Tuesday, October 21, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.: Refined concepts for the playground and Park master plan.

Library and Community Services Director Loretta McKinney, said, “The goal for the master plan is to create a vision for the future of this historical park, which is one of Escondido’s civic landmarks. The master plan will incorporate the existing facilities with new concepts that benefit the entire community while preserving the natural beauty of the area. In addition to the master plan, the community’s input will be an important part of designing the new playground that will be added to the Vinehinge playground that is currently present in the Park. It is important for Grove and the City to hear the valuable input and concerns of the community in order to create an appropriate plan that will serve the community for generations to come!”
