Clean Energy Alliance

The City of Escondido has joined the cities of Carlsbad, Del Mar, Solana Beach and San Marcos to procure electricity from the Clean Energy Alliance (CEA), a Community Choice Energy program. CEA provides an option for local customers to purchase power from more renewable sources.

Clean Energy Alliance is the new power provider for Escondido bringing residents and businesses clean power at competitive rates. CEA is locally controlled and supported by ratepayers, with no taxpayer subsidies. By law, as a joint powers authority, CEA is a separate legal entity from its member agencies. Its budget is separate from the member cities' general funds and is funded by program revenues and reserves. Learn more about the program and your choice at: https://thecleanenergyalliance.org/

POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATES:

Safety Academy

The Police Athletic League hosted a youth safety academy on January 28. Seven youth were in attendance and learned valuable lessons on how to stay safe. They were run through two scenarios where a "kidnapper" tried to take them. Volunteers and detectives from the police department assisted in teaching and role playing as the "kidnappers". As always, it was a great day for everyone.

Stolen Merchandise Located

In early November, Industrial Liquidation Plus was burglarized for a loss of approximately $60,000 in tools, including a concrete tamper. Detective Martinez was assigned the case and learned a subject was selling the concrete tamper on Offer Up. A further check showed the subject has sold hundreds of items, new, like new, or in the original packaging, most of which were tools, using Offer Up and Facebook Marketplace.

Detectives Martinez and Dixon spoke with an investigator from Home Depot, who told him they were also investigating this subject for tool-related theft sales. During the investigation, detectives discovered a second location was storing stolen items from Home Depot. Search warrants were obtained for both sites, and surveillance was conducted at both locations.

Earlier this week, Detective Dixon contacted the subject via Offer Up and set up a buy for the concrete tamper. On February 2, detectives contacted the subject with the property and placed him under arrest. The search resulted in the stolen concrete tamper being recovered, along with approximately 230 items from Home Depot, totaling over $50,000. Great job all around!
