Escondido, CA - Escondido Public Library and KPBS will host “An Evening with Jimmy Gownley, on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Jimmy Gownley is the author of The Dumbest Idea Ever!, selected as the 2015 One Book, One San Diego teen read. Gownley will talk about his graphic novel, as well as the comic art form, and influences that helped shape his success. A book signing will follow his talk and copies of The Dumbest Idea Ever! will be available for purchase at a price of $10 with cash or credit card.

This event is open to the public, but attendees must pre-register online at The Turrentine Room will open at 5:15 p.m. and early arrival and seating before 6:00 PM are highly encouraged. Remaining seats may be available on the day of the event, but due to limited seating, attendees are encouraged to pre-register in advance.

Gownley is known for his keen emotional sensitivity and engaging storytelling, and ‘tweens and teens will readily identify with his comedic and heartwarming memoir. In The Dumbest Idea Ever!, Gownley focuses on his adolescence as a popular and smart basketball star who was forced to miss a month of classes due to a terrible case of chicken pox and pneumonia. While recovering from his illness, Gownley reconnected with his love of drawing and comics, ultimately creating and publishing his own book.

KPBS is a founding partner of the One Book, One San Diego community reading program and programs such as “An Evening with Jimmy Gownley” are made possible by the Linden Root Dickinson Foundation with additional funding provided by the Dr. Seuss Fund at the San Diego Foundation, SDG&E, Lloyd Pest Control, and Jerome’s Furniture. “An Evening with Jimmy Gownley” is also supported by the Friends of the Escondido Public Library.
