Escondido, CA  Escondido Public Library will celebrate El Día de los Niños, El Día de los Libros (Children’s Day, Book Day) on Thursday, April 30, 2015, from 3:30—5:00 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. This interactive program with storytelling and crafts connects families and children of all ages to books and reading, and celebrates the diversity of cultures in our community.

El Día, as it is commonly known, is inspired by Mexico’s annual El Día del Niño (Day of the Child) and serves as an introduction to the rich family traditions preserved in the Latin community. It is also a nationally recognized initiative, especially celebrated by libraries, that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgroundsThe program encourages parents to celebrate their children by making a daily commitment to promoting reading at home. Escondido Public Library’s program will feature a variety of stations with a storytelling corner and special craft areas for puppet-making, paper tissue and flower creation, necklace beading, and chalk art.

Cecy Rayphole, Senior Library Associate, is organizing the festivities and commented, “The Día event is a perfect way to celebrate all children and highlight the importance of books, individual reading, and family reading time. It also encourages the community to visit the Library, check out books, utilize our many resources, and learn about our programs.”
