Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library and the Friends of Literacy Services will host the 10th Annual Scrabble-Thon tournament on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM. The event will be held in the Social Hall at the First United Methodist Church of Escondido, located at 341 S. Kalmia Street, Escondido, CA. Doors open for player check-in at 8:00 AM. Tournament play begins at 9:00 AM.

The tournament is open to adults and high school students. Players elect to play in one of three divisions: Advanced, Intermediate or Novice. Teams of four are encouraged, and teammates must compete within the same division. Pre-registration is required and is now open. The early registration fee for adults is $25.00, and the deadline is February 20, 2014. The registration fee for adults will be $30.00 after that date. The registration fee for high school students is $15.00.

Registration and payment options include:

  • Online – Register through PayPal with a credit card at library.escondido.org/scrabblethon2014.
  • By Mail – Send a completed registration form with a check payable to “EPL Friends of Literacy Services” to:

  • In Person – Bring a completed registration form and cash or check to the Escondido Public Library Literacy Services office located at 239 South Kalmia Street, Escondido, CA 92025.

In addition to tournament play, there will be opportunity drawings for prizes and a silent auction at the event.

Sponsored by the Escondido Public Library Friends of Literacy Services, proceeds from the tournament will fund basic literacy services and career readiness.
