Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s Read, Eat, and Discuss (R.E.A.D.) Middle Grade Book Club for children, ages 9-12, will meet on Friday, November 17, 2017, in the Turrentine Room from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Participants will explore Robert Beatty’s novel, Serafina and the Black Cloak. Registration is required and now open at library.escondido.org/register. Circulating copies of the book are available for checkout and can be obtained at the Youth Services desk, while supplies last. To reserve a copy, visit the Library’s catalog at library.escondido.org.
Serafina lives with her Pa in the basement of the Biltmore Estate, staying out of sight during the day and only venturing out at night to go about her work of evicting rats. The rich people upstairs don’t know she exists, and her Pa wishes to keep it that way. Serafina, though, is about to be drawn into an adventure. One night, she witnesses a terrifying man in a black cloak prowling the halls. She escapes, but in the days that follow, the children at the estate begin disappearing, and Serafina will have to work with Braeden Vanderbilt, nephew of the Biltmore’s owners, to put a stop to it.
