Escondido city officials reported today that Escondido police Chief has announced his plans to retire at the end of the year. Maher has served with Escondido Police Department for 32 years, and was previously a U.S. Military Marine Corps Police Officer for 4 years.      

 "I have been fortunate to serve the community and the men and women of this department as Chief for the past 6 years. We have an excellent Police Department. I have been honored to lead them as their Police Chief. It is hard to leave, but it is clear to me that it is time to move on, " Chief Maher said.
Chief Maher has been on administrative leave since September 12th 2012. A personnel investigation was initiated and the Chief was interviewed as a witness. The investigation is ongoing and further details will not be discussed publicly due to confidentiality rules.
