The City of Escondido has won two competitive grants totaling $1.6 million from the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) to improve bike and pedestrian access to the Escondido Transit Center and the Escondido Creek Trail.

One of the grants is a $335,000 active transportation grant, which will help fund the installation of a pedestrian signal and pedestrian refuge across El Norte Parkway, including a decorative trail overhead signage structure. The other grant is a $1.27 million smart growth grant that will enable the city to build a pedestrian/bike bridge to connect the Escondido Transit Center with the Escondido Gateway shopping center on W. Valley Parkway, and construct bike lanes between Tulip and Quince streets.

The grants are made possible by the regional TransNet half-cent sales tax for transportation approved by voters countywide and administered by SANDAG.  For more information please visit: http://www.sandag.org/index.asp?newsid=876&fuseaction=news.detail
