Purpose

The Community Services Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the Council, Community Services Director, and school districts in all matters pertaining to park use and development, public recreation, and the use of public park facilities by individuals, groups and those issues affecting all citizens. This includes:

  • Cooperating with other governmental agencies and civic groups in the advancement of sound community parks and recreational programming and development
  • Making recommendations regarding desirable contractual relations between the City, public schools and other agencies for use of buildings, playgrounds and other recreational facilities
  • Advising the Advisory Board of the County‚Äôs Aging and Independence Services on matters relating to the development, implementation and administration of the area plan which would affect Escondido residents
  • Serving as a liaison with various groups and agencies dealing with older adult related issues at the local and state level and recommending needed senior programs and legislation to those groups

Nine members, one of which must be a nominee representative selected by the High School District Board of Trustees, one nominee representative selected by the Elementary School District Board of Trustees, and at least one youth representative, at least 16 years of age

Meeting Schedule: Quarterly, on the Fourth Thursday of each month, 6:30 p.m.
Length of Term: Four years

Training: City staff provides an initial orientation and ethics training in accordance with state law.
