Escondido, CA - Rincón Literario (The Literary Corner), Escondido Public Library’s Bilingual Book Discussion Group, will meet on Saturday, September 26, 2015, from 3:30 – 4:45 p.m. in the Turrentine Room. Esperanza renace/Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan, is the selected title for September. Multiple copies of the book are available for check out and may be reserved in the Library catalog at library.escondido.org.
Esperanza renace/Esperanza Rising is a best-selling, Newbery Award winning novel about Esperanza, the daughter of a wealthy landowner in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Esperanza believed that she would always live a fortunate life with new dresses, a beautiful home, and servants. A sudden tragedy forces Esperanza and her Mama to flee to California during the Great Depression, where they settle in a camp for Mexican farm workers. Esperanza is unprepared for the hard labor, financial struggle, or lack of acceptance she and her mother now face. When their lives are threatened, Esperanza must find a way to rise above her difficult circumstances.
Rincón Literario will meet next month, on Saturday, October 31, 2015, to discuss KPBS’ 2015 One Book, One San Diego selection, La sombra del viento/The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. This book was specially selected by KPBS, and its partners, as the 2015 One Book, One San Diego community read title. Copies of the book are available for check-out in print or eBook format and can be reserved at library.escondido.org.
