Unpaid Position

The Escondido Fire Department is seeking qualified men and women 55 years and older for the Fire Department Senior Volunteer Program.  Volunteers work under the direct supervision of the Senior Volunteer Coordinator, providing Incident Support and Fire Administration Support.  If you are retired and want to join a hard-working team that shares a commitment to providing top quality services to the Escondido community, this volunteer program could be ideal for you.

Key responsibilities for include:

  • Pick up and deliver supplies, equipment and department mail.
  • Provide information, directions and assistance to the public.
  • Assist the Fire Prevention Division with a Smoke Alarm Program.
  • Assist the Public Education Specialist with Fire Department displays and presentations.
  • Provide incident support by delivering hydration and food supplies to firefighting personnel at fires and other extended emergency incidents.
  • Conduct fire station tours.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

The ideal volunteer candidate for this position will:

  • Possess good moral character and the ability to get along well with others.
  • Demonstrate dependability, safe driving habits and an interest in serving the public.
  • Communicate effectively with the public, both in person and by phone.
  • Possess a California Driver’s License.

Minimum requirements:

  • Past fire and EMS experience is a plus but is not required.
  • Bilingual skills desirable.
  • Must pass a DMV and Live Scan (fingerprint) background check.

The Fire Department Volunteer Program requires a minimum time commitment of 4 hours per week or 16 hours per month from each volunteer.  Volunteers may work more hours depending on their availability.
