Escondido Fire Department Assists MIAS Fire Relief
This week mutual aid crews were on their way back to Escondido when they were called to assist with the MIAS fire incident near Banning. Pictured below is Escondido Firefighter Jonathan San Nicolas battling the blaze.


Solar Eclipse in Escondido
City employees stepped out of City Hall to take a look at the solar eclipse on Monday. Employees passed around special eclipse glasses for safe viewing.

Increased Wi-Fi Usage leads to Upgrades to the Downtown Wireless
Our downtown Wi-Fi has been a huge success and its usage continues to grow. We have just increased the bandwidth to keep up with demand. The numbers show the success of this project as our residents are heavily using the free Wi-Fi in the downtown area. 

Safety Concern Leads to Quick Action
A resident contacted City Council this week with a concern for the safety of her hearing impaired child. She has lived in town for while and her son had a close call on their street this week. City staff is working quickly to get street signs in place on her street indicating that a deaf child is in the area.

Welcome to Escondido

This week our digital welcome sign went into rotation at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido. This is in addition to our welcome messages running on the Westfield and Lexus digital marquees. Once the Auto Park’s new sign is up and running we will be featured there as well.


Staff Begins Work on Website Update
A team has been assembled and met for the first time this week to begin the overhaul of the City’s website. The majority of the work will be done in-house with our existing resources and staff. The updated website is expected to be launched by 2018. 

Police Receive over $500K in Grant Funding
Our Police Department received a $510,000 OTS grant. This amount is $200,000 more than previous years. The large increase accounts for two approved DUI enforcement officers that will work during prime hours/days that most DUI collisions are occurring. The objective is to decrease DUI related injuries and deaths by increasing enforcement and education.

Getting to Yes
Staff worked with a local studio, allowing Stone and Glass to operate in its new location with limited cost. This unique business will be relocating next to the Hawthorne Country Store on Valley Parkway. 

City Hosts Regional Code Enforcement Officer Training
The City’s Code Enforcement Division hosted a California Association of Code Enforcement Officers (CACEO) Investigative Report Writing class at City Hall this week. 45 Code Enforcement Officers from 12 different cities participated in this training working collaboratively to hone in their writing skills to write effective reports.


Large Soccer Tournament Coming to Town
Ryan Park will be hosting the Peninsula Women’s Soccer League annual adult level soccer tournament August 5-6, 2017 at Ryan Park.  There will be a total of 41 coed and women’s teams.  Approximately 1000 players and spectators are expected in the area over the weekend.  For additional information, please go to
