I will be offering my annual State of the City address on Wednesday morning, February 26, 2014 at the Conference Center of the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.   The event is organized by the City of Escondido in partnership with the Escondido Chamber of Commerce and will begin with an optional breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by the program at 8:30 a.m.  The program will include awards to outstanding community volunteers, as well as brief remarks by my colleagues on the City Council and conclude with my address.  Financial expert, George Chamberlin will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.

The optional breakfast is available for $20 per person by prior reservation. Region’s Water Supplies Adequate Despite Statewide Drought

Despite a statewide drought declaration by Governor Brown, the San Diego County Water Authority has adequate supplies for 2014 because of local investments in diverse and more reliable water supplies over the past two decades as well as a long-term decrease in regional water demand.

The Water Authority is not projecting the need for countywide water-use restrictions this year, though the agency is closely monitoring conditions across the Southwest.  However, we encourage residents and businesses to use water as efficiently as possible to avoid water waste. The Water Authority and its 24 member agencies offer rebates, tools and educational programs to improve water-use efficiency at homes, businesses and institutions. The Escondido Recreation Division provides life-enriching recreational programs and activities for people of all ages, from infants to older adults. Leisure classes are offered in personal enrichment, music, dance, arts & crafts, swimming, preschool, tennis, and health & fitness; special programs for youth include the On Track before and after school program and day camps; and sports activities and leagues including softball, roller hockey, and arena soccer are scheduled seasonally.

Escondido Chocolate Festival

Bring your sweetheart or just your sweet tooth to the Downtown Business Association's 4th Annual  "For the Love of Chocolate and SweetArt Festival” on February 8, 2014.   Enjoy the best of downtown’s shops and spas while sampling locally brewed beer and wines, paired with San Diego's finest chocolates from 1-5 p.m. Also, spend the day shopping at Sweet Street, enjoying live music, or taking a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride down historic Grand Ave.

The Perfect Pairing “Golden Ticket” price is $35 when purchased by 5:00 p.m. on February 7 and $45 after that. The ticket for a designated driver (no alcohol but will enjoy the other tastings) is $20 until 5 pm on February 7th, and $30 after that. Tickets can be purchased at the event website or at “Sweet Street” on the day of the event.

The Escondido Art Walk, which is held every 2nd Saturday of each month will also be a part of the festivities. Several galleries and museums will feature various art exhibits from both world-renown and emerging artists. The Sweet Art Walk is free to the public.
