Free Motorist Aid in San Diego

The San Diego Association of Governments, California Department of Transportation, and California Highway Patrol are working together to provide free motorist aid on major freeways in the San Diego region through the following two programs:

 Call Box Program

The Call Box Program is a free service designed to help travelers who experience vehicle problems while on the highway. Call boxes are self-

contained, solar-powered cellular telephones with voice communication to a call center. When motorists open the yellow call box, pick up the phone, and press the red “call” button, they are automatically connected to call center staff.

Freeway Service Patrol (FSP)

FSP is a free service that improves safety for stranded motorists and reduces traffic congestion during peak hours. A roving fleet of tow trucks and pickup trucks travel on select local freeways to provide roadside assistance to commuters. For motorist aid during FSP service hours, you may use any roadside call box, or call 511 and say “Roadside Assistance.” When the FSP is not on duty, you will be connected with a call center to reach other roadside assistance operators.

More information regarding these Motorist Aid services is available at 511sd.com/aid

TWO NEW URBAN WINERIES IN ESCONDIDO

I am pleased to share the news that two new urban winery/tasting rooms have opened in Escondido.  Join us in welcoming them in their new locations.

BK Cellars Urban Winery & Tasting Lounge

BK Cellars Urban Winery and Tasting Lounge is located at 2225 Barham Drive, Suite D in Escondido. They are a production winery with tasting lounge in an industrial setting with cosmopolitan flare. Whether you like red or white wine, BK Cellars features many wines from all over California that are sure to tantalize the palette. They offer wine tasting, wines by the glass and bottle service. Visit their website www.BKCellars.com or www.Facebook.com/BKCellars for hours and more information.

Vesper Vineyards

Vesper Vineyards started in 2008 with a simple goal: show that San Diego County can be included among the great wine regions of California. Growing up in the small community of Valley Center, founders Chris Broomell and Alysha Stehly learned from families long rooted in agriculture that the best produce came from San Diego’s own backyard. Their urban winery is located at 298 Enterprise Street, Suite D in Escondido. Regular hours after grand opening will be Fridays and Saturdays 11am to 6pm and Sundays 11am to 5pm.

The Escondido Senior Center Advocating for Healthy Hearts

Escondido is proud to have one of the largest and most visited senior centers in San Diego County. Located at the Park Avenue Community Center, the Escondido Senior Center is a buzz with activities, programs, and services.  Over 500 adults ages 50+ walk through the doors each week day and participate in activities to stay physically and mentally fit.  Whether your passion is to further your skills in Tai Chi or Line Dancing, gain knowledge in financial planning with George Chamberlain, give back to your community through volunteerism, or simply enjoy a delicious hot meal and good company, the Escondido Senior Center will help improve the quality of life for our seniors.

On Friday, February 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Escondido Senior Center, in collaboration with the County of San Diego and the Escondido Fire Department, is hosting “Love Your Heart.” This event offers free blood pressure screenings that will stimulate Escondidians to “know their numbers” and take charge of their own heart health.

We invite you to join us Escondido Senior Center. For more information call 760-839-4688 or check us out in person at 210 Park Avenue or on line at www.escondido.org/escondido-senior-center.aspx.
