4th of July Celebration

Escondido’s 53rd annual July 4th celebration & fireworks display in Grape Day Park is back this year with an exciting line-up featuring fun for the whole family! This exciting event celebrates our community’s patriotic heritage and shares the love of our great nation with all of Escondido.

Enjoy a variety of free entertainment beginning at 4 p.m. with a presentation by the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, followed by the Jonathan Lee Band, Ke’Ahi & Halua Hula O Makalani Na Pilialoha, Manny Cepeda Orchestra Quartet, the 1st Marine Division Band in concert at the Main Stage (8:05 p.m.), and a  fireworks display by Fireworks America (approx. 9 p.m.) From 4-8 p.m. there will be children’s activities. The museum will be open to the public for free that day from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and will feature two exhibitions, “My Hero: Contemporary Art & Superhero Action” and “Unlocking Wonderland: The Exhibit”.  A variety of refreshments will be available for purchase.

Please note: BBQs, alcohol, pets and tall chairs/canopies should not be brought to the park.

SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

Exercise Your Mind this summer and challenge yourself, your friends, and your family during the Escondido Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge from June 13 – July 31, 2016. Children, teens, and adults read to earn prizes donated by local business partners and attend free craft programs and special events to stay mentally and physically active over the summer.   • Building Artificial Intelligence with UCSD professor Garrison Cottrell July 19 at 6 p.m.
  • An Evening with Author Neal Griffin: Police Lieutenant turned crime action thriller author, Escondido's own Neal Griffin has been celebrated by critics and readers for his realistic and action packed novels Benefit of the Doubt and A Voice from the Field. July 26 at 6 p.m.

Aquatics and Summer Programs

Escondido Recreation is gearing up for their busy summer aquatics season with a variety of opportunities to make families safe in and around the water. The month of June marks the start of Learn to Swim Lessons and Open Swim. These exciting activities are held at both James A. Stone and Washington Park pools from June until mid-August. Escondido Recreation Aquatics encourages people of all ages to practice their swimming techniques, beat the heat, spend time with their families, and have fun at Escondido pools.

On June 11th from 12:00 p.m. To 3:00 p.m., the Community Services department will host a Summer Kickoff Event at Washington Park as a fun start to the Open Swim and summer season of classes and programs.  The event will be fun for the whole family with class demonstrations, information booths, arts, crafts, and more. Open Swim will officially begin at 2:00 p.m.

Wine and Craft Beer Festival

To celebrate Escondido’s growing wine and craft beer industry, a special Wine and Craft Beer Festival will add to the fun of Cruisin’ Grand on June 3, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m.  on Maple Street Plaza.  Seven local wineries, plus Stone Brewing, will be offering tastes and local wine and craft beer expertise. The participating wineries are: 

  • BK Cellars Urban Winery & Tasting Lounge
  • Forgotten Barrel
  • Stehleon Vineyards
  • Hungry Hawk Vineyards
  • Keys Creek Winery
  • Manzanita Ridge Winery
  • Vesper Vineyards
