Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for Escondido residents living west of West Valley Parkway between Via Rancho Parkway and Highway 78.  Residents are directed to evacuation centers at either Escondido High School, 1535 N. Broadway in Escondido or Mission Hills High School, at 1 Mission Hills Court in San Marcos.   Residents are being notified by Reverse 9-1-1 calls.


Palomar Medical Center West will shelter in place.

Weather related power outage in Escondido

San Diego Gas and Electric reports a power outage in the following area due to the weather not fire.

Portions of Communities Affected: NW Escondido/ NE Escondido/ Dixon Lake/ Daley Ranch/ Escondido/ Jesmond Dene

Cause: The weather has caused a problem in the electric system.


Daley Ranch Closure

As a precautionary measure, the City of Escondido has closed Daley Ranch to the public until further notice.  Daley Ranch is located at 3024 La Honda Drive.


Kit Carson Park to Serve as Cal Fire Base Camp

The City of Escondido has authorized Cal Fire to use the southern portion of Kit Carson Park as a base camp.  They will be moving in equipment and resources later this evening.

Kit Carson Park was used as an incident base camp for the fires in 2007.




Air Quality Advisory

As the winds potentially shift this evening, the air quality in  Escondido may worsen and  residents may smell smoke from the fires in San Marcos.  Residents are asked not to  call 9-1-1- unless you actually see flames.


School Closures

The City of Escondido has been informed that all North County schools, including those in Escondido,  will be closed on Thursday, May 15, 2014.


Update from SDG&E - Conserve Power

Update from SDG&E:


  • We wanted to update you on existing outages and demand response programs being initiated. As of this update, the following communities and circuits are currently without power, as a result of de-energization for public safety and system reliability. Estimated restoration time for these circuits is 10:00PM.


  • Circuit 79 / 85 customers / Descanso
  • Circuit 238 / 1 customers / Boulder Creek
  • Circuit 222 / 377 customers / Santa Ysabel
  • Circuit 1030 / 728 customers / Valley Center
  • Circuit 358 / 250 customers / Alpine


  • In addition, several unplanned outages are currently affecting approximately 6,761 customers in Ramona, Pala, Lilac, Carlsbad, Grant Hill and Valley Center. For additional information on communities currently affected by an outage please see our outage map at  SDG&E also has an app that you might consider installing on your Smart Phone.


  • For those unaffected by power outages, SDG&E is calling on individuals to conserve power in this time of critical need.
