Street Maintenance Award

Contact: Julie Procopio, 760-839-4001

The City of Escondido received the “2014 Scrub Seal Project of the Year” award from the California Chip Seal Association (CCSA) for the FY 13/14 Street Maintenance project.  The project was chosen by the Association for City staff’s teamwork with the contractor and material suppliers, and the quality of the finished product.

As part of the City’s on-going efforts to find treatments to cost-effectively extend pavement life and provide smooth, safe driving conditions for our residents, the City elected to use a Scrub Chip Seal to treat streets that were overdue for maintenance.  Scrub Chip Seal was chosen because of its value and ability to rejuvenate the surface of old streets, and filling of street cracks to help reduce pavement erosion and extend the life of treated streets.  The City also uses a rubberized chip seal (ARAM),  and other products in its Pavement Management Program to protect and seal streets.

City of Escondido maintenance crews will replace badly deteriorated wooded trellises on the south side of City Hall beginning on February 17, 2015 and lasting until approximately the end of March. During that time, it will be necessary to close the eastern portion of the south City Hall lot which fronts Valley Parkway.

Every effort will be made to reopen sections of that lot as work is completed.  Parking will still be available in the circular driveway in front of City Hall, as well as in the parking lot between City Hall and the Conference Center of the California Center for the Arts, Escondido.

“Dine Out Escondido!” Restaurant Week - January 25-31

Dine Out Escondido! In conjunction with Visit California’s annual “California Restaurant Month” during the month of January, Escondido will be hosting its second “Dine Out Escondido!” culinary tourism program promoting local restaurants.

This year, “Dine Out Escondido!” will offer a change of strategy from last year. “Following a hugely successful first year, we’re excited to give our restaurant partners a more focused program by building momentum for a 7-day program,” said Katherine Zimmer, Tourism and Marketing Administrator for the City of Escondido. Zimmer also mentioned that these dates align well with San Diego Restaurant Week, which occurs the week prior to the Escondido program.

Visit Escondido is confident last year’s high promotional reach during “Dine Out Escondido!” will prove just as impactful in 2015 through the highly anticipated program.
The City of Escondido is the only city in San Diego’s North County to be involved in this important economic program. Forty cities participated statewide in 2014.

Everyone can savor the diverse culinary flavors of Escondido during “Dine Out Escondido!” by taking advantage of this opportunity to visit their favorite restaurants, discover new ones, and truly enjoy the creativity of Escondido’s fantastic chefs and restaurateurs.
