Scrabble-Thon raises funds to benefit the Library’s Literacy Services program. Sponsored by the Friends of Literacy Services, a 501(c) (3) nonprofit Library support group, 100% of the proceeds will be used to provide literacy materials and resources. There will be opportunity drawings, a Pick-a-Tile drawing, and silent auction items throughout Scrabble-Thon. Opportunity drawing tickets will be on sale at the Library prior to March 14 and at the event. Donations are tax-deductible.
Deputy City Librarian, Cynthia Smith, commented, “Scrabble-Thon is the premier annual event for local Scrabble® enthusiasts who love to play competitively. We’re in our 11th year now and welcome local players from all around the Southland. You don’t have to be a Scrabble® expert to compete. It is loads of fun for adults and high school players who enjoy the challenge of the game. High school students compete to win the coveted trophy for their school. The mix of new and returning players makes Scrabble-thon exciting entertainment and it benefits a very good cause, the Escondido Public Library’s Literacy Services program.”
