The Escondido Public Library invites the community to help develop a dynamic new vision for the Library’s future by attending public meetings on April 27, 30, and May 1.

Escondido Public Library has been a vital part of the community’s educational, cultural, and economic development for more than a century. The current library building, located downtown, can no longer accommodate the materials, services, and technology to support the community’s 21st century needs. Studies over the past five years have confirmed the need for an expanded library and City Council recently approved the initiation of a conceptual design study to reorganize the current building and add a new state-of-the-art wing.

Broad-based community input and ideas will be essential to making the project a success. Community members are invited to participate in any or all of the following opportunities to learn about the library conceptual design project and provide input. Community Meetings will be held on the following dates:

  • Saturday, April 27 – At the Escondido Public Library’s booth at the Día de los Niños festival in Grape Day Park, 321 North Broadway in Escondido, from 11:00 A.M to 4:00 P.M.
  • Tuesday, April 30 – At a public meeting at the Escondido Public Library (Turrentine Room), 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
  • Wednesday, May 1 – At a public meeting at Oak Hill School (Multipurpose Room), 1820 Oak Hill Drive in Escondido, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. This meeting’s agenda will be the same as the April 30 public meeting. Community members are welcome to attend both meetings.

The Escondido Library Foundation has been actively involved in addressing the need for an expanded Library. Jack Anderson, Foundation President and member of the steering team for the Library’s expansion, is looking forward to receiving ideas from the public. He said, “We encourage your participation in this important community process. The Library is an integral part of our community life, and the design process will bring about a specific plan that will improve and strengthen the Library’s capacity and user-friendly capabilities.”

As part of the process, plans to seek input also include a survey that will be available on the Escondido Public Library’s website. Updates and additional events on the conceptual design for an expanded Library will be posted on the Escondido Public Library’s website http://library.escondido.org as the project progresses.

The Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in downtown Escondido. For more information on this and other Library events, go to http://library.escondido.org or contact 760-839-4601.
