Sign up at the library and read anything you want this summer -- no book
reports. Families can attend free performances. Children who keep reading
throughout the summer can receive fun prizes, special coupons and a chance
to win a grand prize.

(2nd - 6th Grade)
2008
Summer Reading Program:
"Catch The Reading Bug"
Children ages 3 years to
those entering 6th grade in the
fall can "Catch the Reading Bug" at the Escondido Public Library.
The Summer
Reading Program runs from June 21-August 9.
Readers are children going into 2nd to 6th
grade in the Fall. Pre-readers are children
from 3 years old to those entering the
1st grade in the Fall.
All events are free and open to the public. Seating is limited and
pre-registration may be required for certain programs. Children are not
required to present their reading logs to attend. Programs or events may
cancel without prior notice.
1.
Come to the Library between
June 21 and August 2 to sign up and check out books.
2. Parents: record the titles and total page count of each book your child reads. Please total the pages before arriving at the Library to report reading progress.
3. Come to the Library to report your progress when you reach a prize level.
4. Visit the Library throughout the summer to participate in crafts, watch performers and have fun with your friends.
5. Grand Prize drawings will occur after Library closing on August 9th. Winners will be notified after the Summer Reading Program ends.
6. Program Goal:
The goal of the program is to encourage children to read over the summer. Page count starts on the date of registration.
Children may use any of the following to reach their page goal:
1. Books
2. Newspapers*
3. Magazines*
4. Comic books*
5. Audio books on tape or CD
*Note:
Newspapers, Comics and Magazines will count for 5 pages per item. Picture
books count for 32 pages.
600 pages.....................Completion Bag
900 pages.....................Themed Book Bag
1200 pages...................Grab Bag Prize
1500 pages...................Grand Prize Drawing Entry
2500 pages and every 1000 pages thereafter will receive
an additional entry ticket for a grand prize.
Winners of the grand prize drawings will be notified by phone.
Illegible entries into drawing may be disqualified.

300 pages.....................Legoland Coupons and
Completion Bag
600 pages.....................Grab Bag Prize
Note:
Pre-readers are not eligible for Grand Prize Drawings Programs
