Escondido Public Library is located in downtown Escondido at 239 South Kalmia Street. Peter Sprague is widely considered as San Diego’s premier jazz guitarist and a musical powerhouse. He's a composer, producer and performer who has played on over 190 recordings, written numerous songbooks and toured and recorded with world class talent including jazz legends, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, John McLaughlin, Jimmy Haslip, Sergio Mendes, Dianne Reeves and Al Jarreau. Sprague just returned from an extensive fall European tour with famed jazz singer Dianne Reeves. He mainly conducts the majority of his musical endeavors in Southern California, staying close to his family, and has cultivated a huge following locally. Accolades include a long list of awards recognizing his talent as Best Local Musician; Musician's Choice Award; Best Pop Jazz Group for his work with the Blurring the Edges ensemble; Best Jazz Artist; Best Mainstream Jazz Artist; and Best Jazz Artist at the 2007 San Diego Music Awards. Though Sprague's roots are deeply embedded in bebop and Brazilian rhythms, he is prolific in many styles of music from jazz to classical. He performed with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra to rave reviews. Whether exploring new territories of his original jazz music or revisiting popular tunes by beloved artists like the Beatles, Bob Marley, Cole Porter, and Charlie Parker, Peter Sprague's unique blend of inspired melodies and brilliant technical execution consistently enthuse and challenge the listener. The concert will include Peter Sprague on lead guitar, and an ensemble that features Tripp Sprague on saxophone and guest vocalist Lisa Hightower.
