The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) expects traffic delays this week as both directions of State Route 78 may be closed for two consecutive nights at the Nordahl Road bridge, starting Wednesday, February 29, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
Caltrans said the work is necessary for the construction of a temporary pedestrian bridge as part of the upcoming replacement of the Nordahl Road bridge. The closure may be rescheduled if weather or construction materials availability plays a role. Cross traffic on Nordahl Road will remain open during these closures but traffic delays are also expected on Nordahl Road.
Motorists caught in the construction will be detoured to exit at the Nordahl Road off-ramp then reenter SR-78 at the Nordahl Road on-ramp.
If you have questions about this project or other projects located near SR-78 and I-15, Caltrans will hold an informational open house on Wednesday, March 7, from 6--7 p.m. at the San Marcos Community Center located at 3 Civic Center Drive in San Marcos.
