Restoration of wetland habitat near Sand Lake in Kit Carson Park will begin on Monday, September 17, 2012.  Through October, the contractor, Southland Paving, will remove 35,000 cubic yards of dirt and grade the site. Irrigation lines and new landscaping will be installed between November 2012 through February 2013. Park users should expect construction traffic and trail closures during the entire project.

The work is required as a condition of permits from federal and state agencies to mitigate for impacts to sensitive habitats affected by work to be done along the sewer outfall, which runs from the Hale Avenue Resource Recovery Facility in Escondido to San Elijo Lagoon in Encinitas.
