Boundless Playground at Kit Carson Park

Boundless Playground at Kit Carson ParkHow Will This Playground Differ From Typical Playgrounds?

To the casual observer, the City of Escondido's Boundless Playground at Kit Carson Park will look like an ordinary playground, with swings and slides and play equipment that is fun to climb on, under and around. A closer look will reveal that some of those swings have high backs for children who need extra support. All children, but especially children with Down syndrome, will enjoy the challenges of balance and depth perception on the playground's balance beams. Sand play tables will be elevated to allow children in wheelchairs to easily access them so kids of all abilities can play together. Playhouses and cubbies will offer pleasant spaces for children with autism, while also inviting children seeking quiet or separate areas to play in smaller groups. Instead of steps, there will be ramps, some with handrails for pulling oneself without the need for strong legs. Pathways between equipment will be wide, Braille signs will guide blind children, and the ground surfaces will be non-slip and porous to provide accessibility to all.
