Escondido, CA Escondido Public Library’s Burritos & Book Club for teens, ages 13 to 18, meets on Saturday, March 12, 2016, in the Turrentine Room from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The Story of Owen: Dragon Slayer of Trondheim, by E. K. Johnston, is the selected title and copies are available for checkout at the Library’s Information Desk or can be reserved using the Library’s online catalog at library.escondido.org.

Set in modern-day Canada within an alternate world where dragons and humans coexist, but not in harmony, The Story of Owen, is a tale of friendship, courage, community, and social commentary. Owen Thorskard, the last in a long line of legendary dragon slayers and his trusty sidekick and storyteller, Siobhan, are determined to restore dragon-slaying traditions of yore and in the process save their town from the carbon-eating dragons who terrorize it. At sixteen, with dragons advancing, Owen faces impossible odds with Siobhan by his side, telling his story… the story that changes their lives forever.

In addition to discussing The Story of Owen: Dragon Slayer of Trondheim, teens can share their opinions and ideas about other books they have enjoyed and propose titles for the next Burritos & Book Club meeting. The selected book will be discussed at the next meeting on Saturday, May 7, 2016. Complimentary burritos will be provided, and all participants receive a free book or audiobook at the end of the program.
