Escondido, CA Escondido Public Library’s Burritos & Book Club for teens ages 13-18, meets on Saturday, May 20, 2017, in the Turrentine Room from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. New York Times bestseller, Rebel of the Sands, by Alwyn Hamilton, is the selected title. Copies are available for checkout at the Library’s Information Desk or can be reserved using the Library’s online catalog at library.escondido.org.  Students at Escondido High School, San Pasqual High School, and Orange Glen High School can also check out copies at their school library.

Rebel of the Sands is set in the desert nation of Miraji, an unwelcoming place, and the small town of Dustwalk is even less welcoming. Orphaned, barely tolerated, and stifled in a culture that considers females worthless, Amani must rely on her skills as a sharpshooter to escape from an arranged marriage and finally be free. Brash, witty, and fierce, Amani’s plans for escape backfire, but then she suddenly gets another chance. In this action-filled adventure, she never imagined she’d gallop away from back-country

Dustwalk on a mythical horse made of sand into the heart of the wild and barren desert. Even more startling to her is the charming and mysterious scoundrel Jin, who accompanies her on this rollicking fantasy adventure full of romance, myth, and magic.

After discussing Rebel of the Sands, teens can share other books they have enjoyed and select the next Burritos & Book Club title. Complimentary burritos will be provided, and all participants receive a free book or audiobook at the end of the program.
