Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library will offer Summer Reading Clubs for all ages, beginning on Monday, June 23, 2014. This year’s theme, “Paws to Read,” provides reading clubs, programs, activities, and events for every age group, from babies, preschoolers, and elementary school age children, to teens and adults. Registration opens on Monday, June 23, 2014 and participants can sign-up by visiting the Library or registering online through the Library’s website: library.escondido.org. Summer readers track their progress toward reading goals throughout the program. Children and teens read for prizes which are generously funded by the Friends of the Escondido Public Library. Registration will continue through July 21, 2014, and the Summer Reading Club ends on August 2, 2014.

The Library’s Children’s Services Department urges families to gallop, crawl, or fly to the Library to attend weekly events for children, ages 4 to 12. Children’s Crafts will be held on Tuesdays at 2:00 PM on June 24, July 8, 15, 22, & 29, 2014. Special programs and events for children will be held on Thursdays at 2:00 PM.

The Children’s summer program schedule includes:

  • June 26         Reptile Show presented by EcoVivarium
  • July 10          Book Time with Ronald McDonald
  • July 17          Escondido Humane Society
  • July 24          Wildlife Company
  • July 31          Summer Reading Club Finale with author, Clint Perry

For the very youngest, the Library will hold “(p)awesome” weekly storytimes for babies.

Cindi Bouvier, Senior Librarian for Youth Services said, “With school out for summer, there will be plenty of free time for reading for fun. Summer reading is also important because it helps students retain their reading level achieved during the school year.”

‘Tweens and teens can also dig into good books, earn prizes, and attend special programs, such as, Burritos and Books, Games and Grub, Movie Night, and Craft Events! Teens that reach their 25 hour reading goal will be invited to a special finale party.

Adults can join in the summer reading fun by participating in the 2nd Tuesday Book Club or Rincón Literario Bilingual Book Club. In addition, Adults Services has planned eBook safaris to help readers download library eBooks onto their favorite device. We Bought a Zoo (rated PG) will be featured on Movie night.

A full schedule of Summer Reading Club programs and events is available online at library.escondido.org . All Library programs are free, open to the public, and sponsored by Friends of the Library. The Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia Street in Escondido.
