Escondido, CA – Escondido Public Library’s Summer Reading Clubs begin Monday, June 23, 2014 and run through August 2, 2014. This year’s theme is “Paws to Read,” encouraging book and animal-lovers of all ages to “pause,” read, and discuss what they’ve read with others. The Library’s Adult Summer Reading Club offers the opportunity to record books read and share recommendations and reviews with others. Beginning June 23, 2014, adults can join by registering in-person at the Library Information Desk or online at library.escondido.org/adultSRC. Participants who submit book reviews will be eligible for prizes.
On Monday, June 23, 2014, the Adult Summer Reading Club kicks-off with a free movie, “We Bought a Zoo,” showing at 5:00 PM in the Turrentine Room. “We Bought a Zoo,” is about Benjamin Mee, a widower who buys a home that includes a dilapidated zoo and renovates it for a grand reopening to the public. Matt Damon, who plays Benjamin Mee says, “Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just, literally, 20 seconds… and I promise you, something great will come of it.”’ Summer Reading Club coordinator, David Frazee, agrees saying, “It takes just 20 seconds to sign up for the Summer Reading Club and something great will come of it!”
In addition to the movie, adult summer readers will enjoy a line-up of free programs:
