It is illegal to put computer monitors or televisions in the trash. The cathode ray tubes (CRTs) and some metals in these units are considered toxic waste and require special processing.
If you don't know of an individual or organization that wants your used equipment, you will need to bring it to a household hazardous waste facility for disposal. This service is currently offered free of charge to City of Escondido residents at the household hazardous waste facilities in Escondido, Vista, and Poway. There is a limit of five CRT units per customer and no limit for non-CRT items (CPUs, printers, etc.).
