Other City Clerk Services

We are pleased to provide you with information about the City Clerk's office. We have designed these Web pages to help inform our citizens about our functions and what type of services we provide. We welcome your comments. If we can provide any additional information, please call our office at (760) 839-4617.

The duties of the City Clerk include responsibility for the care and custody of all official records and documents of the City, for the protection and preservation of the City's past history; administration of all municipal and special elections; the accurate record of City Council proceedings, actions, and documentation of City Council meetings; administering the City's records management program; receiving and filing claims against the City; maintenance of the Municipal and Zoning Codes; administering regulations relating to the Fair Political Practices Commission; and providing research and information services to the public and City staff.

The City Clerk's office maintains the staff reports, minutes, resolutions, ordinances, and audiotapes of City Council meetings. Contact the Audio-Video Division at (760) 839-4693 for videotapes of City Council meetings. The City Clerk's office also maintains the original of all City Council approved contracts, agreements and bids, city budgets, and codes (i.e., Municipal, Zoning, Building, Electrical, Fire, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Housing).

The office maintains City Election files and other information with regards to elections, original recorded documents (i.e., deeds, easements, etc.). The staff collects and maintains all Fair Political Practices Commission's Conflict of Interest forms and campaign expenditure forms.

Other services available in the City Clerk's office include:

Voter Registration
Certification of Documents
Notification and Acceptance of Bid Awards
Publication of Legal Notices

A common misconception is that we also act as the County Clerk. For this reason, we have provided a direct link to the San Diego Assessor/Recorder/County Clerk for such matters as marriages licenses, birth and death certificates, fictitious business names and recordation of documents.
