The City of Escondido offers a comprehensive household hazardous waste program to its residents to ensure that hazardous materials are disposed of safely and legally. This program is for residential household hazardous waste only; business waste is not accepted. Please see items listed below for specific program information, or call the Recycling Hotline at 760-839-6216 for additional information or Escondido Disposal at 760-745-3203 to make an appointment to dispose of your household hazardous waste.  For paint disposal, click on the paint care link below for a list of local paint retailers that accept paint.  Call ahead for hours and restrictions.

City of Escondido residents can use the Household Hazardous Waste Disposal Site operated by Escondido Disposal, located at 1044 West Washington Avenue in Escondido. You may not transport more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds at a time (excluding electronic waste). Each container should be no larger than 5 gallons and clearly labeled.

If you prefer, you can also use the household hazardous waste sites located in Vista and Poway. These sites are open most Saturdays and do not require appointments. For additional information, download our flyer or visit the following web pages:

Residents who have only prescription medications to dispose of may visit any of the locations listed in the table, or drop their unwanted prescriptions at the EDI lobby, 1021 W. Mission Ave., Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
